The Glenn Hourigan Cup contest began in 2003-04 following the great success of the annual Ross Turner Cup fixture, which was inaugurated in 1998-99 to promote an opportunity for our best junior players to appear in a ‘showcase’ game of high level representative cricket.
This annual U/13 contest was originated by the late Tom Richmond OAM , Life Member of HK&HDCA, Northern District CC and Coaches’ Association, who passed the responsibility to Bruce Wood OAM (President, Coaches’ Association), in 2010-11.
Bruce has maintained the fine tradition, appointing young RTC and GHC coaches, and scheduling the matches on adjacent ovals at Turramurra. Connor Hindmarch (HKHDCCA Head Coach) currently plays a key role in selecting the RTC and GHC teams each year.
The Cup is named in honour of the late Glenn Hourigan , who was the HK&HDCA Representative Secretary for 13 seasons from 1988-89 to 2000-01. He also held the role of delegate to IDCA from 1988 to 2001. For his services to cricket, Glenn was awarded HK&HDCA Life Membership (# 38) in 1997; and was a recipient of the Australian Sports Medal in 2000.
