The HK&HDCA Ross Turner Cup (RTC) was inaugurated in 1998-99 to promote an opportunity for the best of our U/15 players to appear in a ‘showcase’ game of high level representative cricket.
One of the objectives was to accelerate the ‘career paths’ of our outstanding young cricketers by the earlier identification of players with talent and commitment, in order to provide high level coaching and development opportunities for these players.
The RTC and Glenn Hourigan Cup (GHC) matches were the brainchild of the late Tom Richmond OAM , Life Member of HK&HDCA, Northern District CC and Coaches’ Association, who passed the responsibility after 12 years to Bruce Wood OAM (President, Coaches’ Association); Life Member of HK&HDCA and the Coaches’ Association, in 2010-11.
Bruce has maintained the fine tradition, appointing young RTC and GHC coaches, and scheduling the matches on adjacent ovals at Turramurra. Connor Hindmarch (HKHDCCA Head Coach) currently plays a key role in selecting the RTC and GHC teams each year.
The Cup is named in honour of Ross Turner , one of HK&HDCA’s finest products. As a young player, Ross was a brilliant all-rounder who played for Pennant Hills CC, HK&HDCA rep. teams, and later became Northern District CC’s most successful captain, winning two First Grade premierships in 1985-86 and 1986-87. Ross worked for Cricket NSW and Cricket Australia, pioneering development activities, before being appointed in 1998 as the Global Development Manager for the International Cricket Council (ICC), based at Lords in London, where he facilitated the development of cricket in emerging cricket nations.
